Trekking Epic Kackar Trails

This hiking excursion explores the lower slopes of the kackar and may be started as early as July, when the hiking season in this hilly region begins. It’s quieter, and trekkers have a better chance of seeing animals than during the busier weeks in August. Every valley is carpeted with wildflowers, and every hill is dripping with melting streams. This is a tour for individuals who don’t want to climb to the top and would rather stay in village homes and pensions. The months of July and August are ideal for visiting this slice of heaven on Earth. Along the journey, we’ll view glacial lakes, flowers, and snowcapped peaks as we stroll from one mountain yayla (pasture) to the next.

Trekking is a means to get a closer look at a mountain, it’s history, people, and natural surroundings. Trekking the Kackar-Trails provides with all those

Day 1Meeting at Trabzon Airport and Transfer

Your tour guide and driver will greet you when you arrive at Trabzon Airport. Depending on your arrival time, we can take a brief stroll or move directly to our dinner and overnight lodging in Camlıhemşin (2 hours).

Day 2Camlıhemşin & Ortan

Today we will visit Camlıhemşin hamlet, which is located at the foot of the Kaçkar mountains, and have lunch at a restaurant that serves local dishes. We take a walk in the afternoon to Ortan, a picturesque town with ancient wooden buildings to admire. In Camlıhemşin, we had dinner and stayed in the same pension.

Day 3Amlakit - Pokut

We travel to Pokut Yayla, from whence we hike to Haznda, a typical mountain settlement, via lush forest and green fields. We proceed to Amlakit, partially via a woodland road, after a traditional meal at a rural home. In Amlakit, we stayed in a pension for dinner and the night.

Day 4Glacial Lake Kormukereç

Today we walk in a circle. On the hills above Amlakit, we ascend up to the Kormukereç glacier lake. It’ll be a fantastic day for wildflowers, particularly orchids. You may dive into the extremely cold waters of the lake during your lunch break on the lake’s edge. In Amlakit, we had dinner and stayed at the same pension.

Day 5Palovit - Amlakit

Today we hike from Amlakit to Palovit via Samistal’s original alpine pasture (yayla). We leave the Amlakit valley after a long climb. On this high, picturesque trek, mist and clouds clash with the sun to provide spectacular views of the valleys on both sides. Return to your starting point by vehicle or by foot. In Amlakit, we had dinner and stayed in the same pension.

Day 6Palovit - Yukar Kavrun

From Palovit, we hike up to Apevanak Pass and then down to Yukar Kavrun. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch on the beaches of the Derebaş glacier lake along the route. Yukar Kavrun has a pension where you may stay for dinner and the night.

Day 7Yukarı Kavrun - Çeymakçur & Ayder

In the morning, we take a trek up to Yildiz and Büyükdeniz Lakes. We stroll down to Çeymakçur Yaylası after having a picnic lunch by the lakes. We get into the car and head to Ayder.
